Our history

Our history

For the Natalini family, cultivating vineyards and producing exceptional wines is a cherished tradition. Raised among the gentle hills of Cervognano in Montepulciano, at the heart of Tuscany, they have cared for this land across generations. With meticulous care in the vineyard and steadfast dedication in the cellar, they uphold a deep respect for the environment—a passion for winemaking that has flourished in this corner of Tuscany for decades. Here, the finest vineyards are appropriated for the production of Nobile di Montepulciano where each bottle is a testament to their bond with the land and its tradition

The name “Le Bèrne,” derived from the Etruscan word for “The Hill,” reflects its timeless connection to the landscape. In 1967, Giuliano Natalini and his father, Egisto Natalini, acquired the sharecropping farm where their family had once lived and worked the land. Setting aside mixed cultivation, they planted their first vineyard, laying the foundation for Le Bèrne’s wine production.
Over the decades that followed, Giuliano and his wife, Ada, poured their devotion into the vineyards and refined their winemaking practices, ever focused on elevating the quality of their grapes. This blend of thoughtful viticulture and meticulous craftsmanship lies at the heart of Le Bèrne’s philosophy, affirming their enduring commitment to excellence and the land they cherish.

From the outset, Giuliano has nurtured a profound love for the land and its vineyards, instilling in his family the virtues of diligence and humility. His prized possessions are his tractors, affectionately named—Giorgio for the mightiest, Giorgino for the smallest—each a trusted partner in his lifelong devotion to the craft. Now at 80, he retains an extraordinary vitality and an unyielding drive to tend the vines, his wisdom and experience woven into every wine Le Bèrne produces.

Ada dedicates herself to the family with heartfelt care and is also an excellent cook, known for preparing her delicious Pici al Sugo and Piccione Arrosto. As a woman living among the vines and countryside, she is precise, meticulous, and always attentive to detail. She lovingly tends to the Vin Santo grapes, and it’s no surprise that Le Bèrne’s bottle of this precious sweet local wine bears her name.

A New Chapter: 1997

In 1997, Andrea and Laura Natalini, the son and daughter of Giuliano and Ada, brought their enthusiasm and newly acquired knowledge and insight to Le Bèrne after studying agriculture and gaining diverse professional experience. Their contributions enhanced the quality of the wines, and that same year, the family decided to bottle their first Vino Nobile di Montepulciano under the Le Bèrne name—a key moment in the family’s winemaking journey.
