Le Bèrne holds a great love for wine, believing it is meant to be enjoyed. The highest compliment is a bottle promptly consumed. An “easy-drinking” wine, in their view, doesn’t imply simplicity but celebrates balance—where strength and subtlety coexist. Whether bold and structured or light and refined, the most cherished wines are those where every element aligns seamlessly. This pursuit of balance begins in the vineyard, where Le Bèrne’s sustainable practices ensure the land thrives alongside the vines.

In the Vineyard

Sustainability is the guiding principle at Le Bèrne, prioritizing the health of its vineyards and soil and rejecting the use of herbicides, pesticides, or synthetic products. Rather, the winery produces its own compost, planting green manure with the use of cover crops to improve soil health and fertility and promote biodiversity. According to Le Bèrne, even the most skilled vintner cannot produce an exceptional wine without three essential elements: high-quality grapes, vibrant vineyards, and a rich, well-balanced soil. In Tuscany, Sangiovese is the primary grape cultivated, complemented by other local varieties and it is the mission at Le Bernè to holistically enhance the true essence of the grape. Each vineyard’s distinct character is highlighted and expressed through the different wines in their portfolio with every bottle embodying the vintner’s passion.

In the Cellar

Le Bèrne’s winemaking philosophy is rooted in the belief that wine should authentically express both the land and the producer. Rather than adhering to rigid conventions or set ideas, they let the wine guide the process. While vinification typically takes place in steel vats, concrete is also used when it better suits the wine. Fermentation is always spontaneous, without the addition of selected yeasts. Maceration times and aging periods vary, allowing each wine to develop its own character. Everything is done to create wines that are as vibrant and balanced as possible, respecting and reflecting both the land and the people behind them.

Wine as an Expression

Le Bèrne’s essence lies in its mature, robust vines, enduring and strong, tended by Nonno Giuliano with the seasoned care he has given for decades.

“Wines are like people:
touchy, proud, superb,
modest, elegant, refined, hieratic wines….
Tragic wines and comical wines.
And then, yes, there are wines that
have had a facelift and wines
that are like their mother made them.
That’s why every wine resembles
the person who produces it.”
